Born to a minor branch of the Isawa family of the Phoenix, Isawa Kuro followed the path of most of his Clan and became a shugenja. As a student of the kami he was underwhelming and didn’t stand out.
During the early years of Kisada I‘s reign Kuro managed to resist the temptation to study maho as many of the Clan fell to. Though the kami didn’t answer his prayers as often anymore Kuro didn’t mind. He was content to study and learn.
Kuro had a particular interest in the Water Dragon and it was a surprise to him when he was visited in a dream by the Dragon. The elemental told Kuro that he was destined for greatness and that there was a way to defeat Kisada.
Kuro was doubtful at first, but as time progressed his visions became stronger. Kuro disappeared one night from Shiro Shiba, where he had been studying.
Now, he has made his way to Kyuden Gotei in the Mantis Isles with a tale to tell Yoritomo if he can gain audience with the Shogun. The heavens have not forsaken Rokugan, there is a place where the heroes of old can be called back to the Mortal Relam. It is called Oblivion’s Gate.
