Kisada I

Emperor Kisada I, the Son of Heaven and Light of the Empire was formerly Hida Kisada, Champion of the Crab Clan and one of the most feared warriors in Rokugan. During the last hours of the Crab assault on Otosan Uchi in 1128, Kisada and his son Hida Yakamo fought their way to the Throne room of the Imperial Palace and confronted Hantei XXXIX. Yakamo attacked the Emperor, using the Oni‘s Claw that Kuni Yori had grafted to his arm to strike the Emperor. The Hantei however, despite appearing weak and frail, shrugged off the blow and slammed Yakamo across the Throne room. Kisada charged the Emperor, and a fierce kenjutsu duel ensued. the two men deflecting and dodging each attack. Kisada, his legenedary persistence allowing him to keep going despite taking two grievous wounds, struck one last mighty blow. It was the opening that Fu Leng was waiting for. With Kisada weakened and unable to resist, the Dark One entered his soul and possessed his body. The Last Hantei fell under Kisada’s blade, the Ancestral Sword of the Crab.
Kisada took the Throne, as he had planned, but instead of ordering the Crab and the other clans to eliminate the Shadowlands creatures that had marched with them on Otosan Uchi, the new Emperor declared that they would serve him. This alarmed Yakamo, who didn’t understand why his father would order such a thing. Kuni Yori, the mad shugenja was one of the first to bow to the new Son of Heaven. Many others followed, with all of the Clan Champion’s swearing to the new Imperial Dynasty. Kisada’s edicts became more erratic and strange until in late 1128 he ordered that the Brotherhood of Shinsei be rooted out and destroyed. Many of the Clans couldn’t understand why this was happening but complied with the order. The monks were mainly unprepared for the assaults on their monasteries. Toturi and his army acted swiftly to protect as many of the monks as they could.
Shortly afterwards, Togashi Yokuni gathered the Seven Thunders to his side and with the Hooded Ronin the last descendant of Shinsei led them against Kisada in the Second Day of Thunder. Togashi, and five of the Thunders perished in the assault. The Hooded Ronin disappeared and Toturi and Yakamo managed to escape. Shortly after, Kisada declared his son to be Kisada Yakamo and reaffirmed his role as Crab Clan Champion. Toturi and Yoritomo gathered what forces they could and fled to the Mantis Isles.
Kisada I has ruled for ten years now. The first ten years of a thousand years of darkness. Each passing year has brought new terrors to the Empire, the days of the Hantei are now a distant memory.
